Padraig Harrington Expands Wilson Legacy With History-Making Us Senior Open Win
Padraig Harrington became only the fourth golfer to defend his US Senior Open title on Sunday, winning by four shots at Scioto Country Club in Ohio. He also joined Miller Barber as the only three-time winner in the event’s 46-year history.
The Irishman, who returns to Royal Birkdale next week for the Open Championship, the site of his 2008 victory, is the first player to win back-to-back US Senior Opens since Allen Doyle in 2006.

NGF Short Game: The Quiet Growth of Municipal Golf
As the U.S. golf market has experienced a supply correction over the past two decades – with a net reduction of more than 2,000 golf courses – there’s quietly been a curious trend: a slow, upward climb in the municipal golf space.
Dating back to 2006, the number of municipally owned and operated golf courses has increased by 7% while the two other ownership segments (daily fee public courses and private clubs) have undergone notable contraction.

First Tee Announces 80 Teens Selected To Compete at PGA Tour Champions’ Pure Insurance Championship
First Tee and PGA TOUR Champions today announced the 80 teens selected to compete in the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee, set for September 15-20, 2026, at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course on the Monterey Peninsula.
Hosted by PURE Insurance and Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the tournament is broadcast internationally on Golf Channel and pairs First Tee participants with PGA TOUR Champions professionals and business leaders for a week of personal growth. Participants age 15-18 will compete for the boys’ and girls’ pro-junior titles.
GCSAA Names Nicole Poell Editor-in-Chief of GCM
Nicole Poell, an award-winning sports journalist with more than three decades of experience, has been named editor-in-chief of GCM and director of publications for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
In her role, Poell will oversee the writing, editing and overall production of GCSAA’s monthly award-winning publication, including the management of GCM’s digital version and social media properties. She takes over the position from Andrew Hartsock, who is retiring this month.
Marilynn Smith Pearl Joins 80th Anniversary Celebration of the US Women’s Open in Moses Lake, WA
Golf It Forward was recently represented at6 The Desert Oasis Invitational at Moses Lake Golf Club by Faith Sampson, a Marilynn Smith Scholarship recipient, also known as a Pearl. The tournament was themed to honor the first US Women’s Open held in 1946 in Spokane, WA with Patty Berg its winner.
Tournament Director Susan Echketkamp invited Sampson to address the tournament attendees, forwarding the legacy of the 13 Founders of the LPGA. “While researching the first US Women’s Open, I was referred to Golf It Forward® and learned of the Marilynn Smith Scholarship Fund” shared Echketkamp. “Faith Sampson, a 2025 scholarship recipient, took us on a journey from first applying for the grant to her current status, incorporating golf history as well.”

The PGA High School Golf National Invitational Returns to Pinehurst July 11-20
For the eighth year, the nation’s best high school golfers will compete at one of golf’s most iconic destinations when the 2026 PGA High School Golf National Invitational presented by Titleist & FootJoy returns to the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina.
The Girls National Invitational will be played July 11-13 on Pinehurst No. 1 and No. 5, followed by the Boys National Invitational July 18-20 on Pinehurst No. 5 and No. 6. Pinehurst is home to 10 18-hole courses and regularly hosts numerous championships, including the 2024 U.S. Open.
